VAN NATTA: Florida Leads the Way on Protecting Children from Mutilating Surgeries

Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) recently banned Medicaid from covering transgender medical “treatments” including transition surgeries, hormone therapies, and puberty blockers. Governor Ron DeSantis also suspended George Soros-funded State Attorney, Andrew Warren, who refused to enforce bans on “sex changes for minors.” DeSantis even sent state police to evict Warren from his office.

Florida’s recent actions against the cult of transgenderism should be a blueprint for Republicans moving forward. This is a movement that renders individuals mutilated and dependent on Big Pharma. The transgender agenda can only be quashed if its opponents do not placate its premises and are willing to use the levers of power to crush it in every sphere.

The first step to medicalization is socially transitioning. 10-year-old Noella McMaher recently became the world’s youngest “transgender” model to walk the New York Fashion Week runway. At 4 years old, Noella began socially transitioning and publicly presenting as a girl. Noella’s parents will soon have him “start puberty blockers and hormones” and undergo surgeries at age 16. Although sexualizing children and grooming them to be sterilized should be met with visceral outrage, it is unfortunately becoming more mainstream.

Boston Children’s Hospital came under fire for gloating about their surgeries for “transgender teens.” The Gender Multispecialty Service (GeMS) program adheres to a “gender-affirmative model of care.” In other words, their methodology is entirely subjective and rooted in gender ideology. The hospital allows children aged nine and under to socially transition and be put on a pathway toward medicalization. Even 15-year-olds are eligible to get chest surgeries.

Boston Children’s Hospital uses The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care guidelines. Patients must be at least 18 years old to undergo most genital surgeries, but while the age is 17 for a vaginoplasty, the co-director of the Boston Children’s Center for Gender Surgery, Dr. Oren Ganor, implied the age could be lowered. In an email to WBUR, Ganor said the Center is “slightly flexible” for surgeries with transgender girls.

Boston Children’s Hospital is not an outlier. The Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., admitted in a Libs of TikTok recording that they perform “gender-affirming” hysterectomies on minors. While they deny the admission in the video, their website does include a “Youth Pride Clinic” that offers hormone replacement therapy.

Transgenderism is an assault on the truth, and it hurts vulnerable people who need help. Every day, more detransitioners speak out about the horrifying results of socially and medically transitioning. Gender ideology has very real and painful consequences for the people affected, and it is time lawmakers take decisive action against its falsehoods.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene recently introduced the Protect Children’s Innocence Act which would make providing “gender-affirming care” to minors a Class C felony. It would also prohibit taxpayer funding of those procedures. Every single Republican must support this bill regardless of their opinion on Marjorie Taylor Greene. Trans activists are not compromising, and neither should their opponents.
