Our society is broken. Gone are the days when neighbors all across the political spectrum could gather on Saturday nights to have a barbecue. Gone are the days when you could go to the store and just buy an item without thinking of the possible political statement your purchase makes. Perhaps most disturbing of all, gone are the days when you could have political break room conversations without fear of being fired for having the “wrong opinion.”
Whether it be the MLB taking the all-star game out of Georgia to protest their voting laws, massive investment firms like BlackRock forcing companies to take left-leaning positions to maintain a high ESG rating, or a Disney executive’s admission to pushing a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda,” it is unfortunately clear that corporate America has sided definitively against anyone right of center.
This can be particularly nerve-racking for young conservatives first looking to enter the workforce that have not yet had time to build up a name or reputation for themselves. It seems as if an ultimatum is being issued: submit or be jobless. Give up your morals and beliefs, or be cast out of polite society.
However, thanks to recent action taken by the Daily Wire, that may all be about to change.
In February of 2021, Gina Carano, former “Face of Women’s MMA” and a star in Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian, was unceremoniously fired from her role as Cara Dune in the popular television show over some social media posts. Later that same day, the Daily Wire capitalized on the slight as described in a tweet by Ben Shapiro “Hollywood canceled @ginacarano for being conservative. That’s bulls***. So we’re fighting back.”
This move is part of the coordinated push by the company to turn from simply doing news and commentary to also joining the entertainment industry, and to become a serious player within it. Carano’s movie, Terror on the Prairie, was released on June 14th exclusively to the Daily Wire’s streaming platform, Daily Wire+. The film joins others such as What is a Woman?, Run Hide Fight, and Shut In being released to overwhelmingly positive audience ratings, despite critics refusing to acknowledge its existence.
In a recent announcement, Jeremey Boreing, CEO of the company, revealed that the Daily Wire now boasts 890,000 paying subscribers, up from the 600,000 number they disclosed last April. They are proving that conservatives can not only survive, but thrive in the realm of entertainment media; that is if they follow Boreing’s vision of “making [entertainment] that people actually wanted to see, not felt like they had to see.”
They’re success is something every conservative, or really anyone even remotely right of center, should be celebrating. Though they are still much smaller than the traditional media companies they are hoping to supplant, they’re also much younger. Disney has been around for almost 100 years, the Daily Wire just turned seven.
They will catch up, and when they do, capitalism will work its magic and force the old companies to either change and stop pandering exclusively to the radical left, or die. They’ll be forced to stop firing anyone who slightly opposes the leftist narrative, or forever lose half their audience.
The Daily Wire is not doing the traditional conservative thing by just grumbling about the left’s domination of culture, they’re taking the steps to actively influence it themselves. They are undermining cancel culture in its entirety by giving its victims a way back to prominence, and giving the average consumer an alternative with actually entertaining media.
With the big media companies losing their grip over the culture, it empowers other businesses to be able to not kowtow to the woke mob. This is the first huge step against the chokehold the leftist elites have been keeping on all aspects of American life, and will finally allow conservative voices back into the limelight.
From the cashier at the local supermarket to the CEO of the international company, the Daily Wire is sending a message to anyone opposed to leftism, as Gina Carano herself put it, “They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”
