This was a historic week for the Supreme Court – one that our children may one day read about in their history books. Our contributors had much to say about Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, so let’s get right into it.
Last week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health. This is a case that gives the court an opportunity to overturn Roe v. Wade, and conservatives everywhere are eagerly following along with its progress. If you didn’t get a chance to listen live, our very own Jon Voos gave his reactions to the oral arguments in his Wednesday article.
On that note, there is much debate over what the future of the pro-life movement will look like after Dobbs. If Roe is overturned, columnist Jack Shields outlines the battles pro-lifers must fight to eradicate abortion in America. On the other hand, if Roe is upheld or replaced, Voos argues that conservatives should not abandon originalist jurisprudence and rather should focus on nominating Justices who have the chutzpah to adhere to their principles under pressure.
Of course, conservatives aren’t the only ones reacting to the possibility of Roe being overturned. The Left has been equally vocal, doing everything in their power to give us the moral high ground and demonstrate the tremendous depth of man’s depravity. As oral arguments for Dobbs commenced, abortion advocates gleefully took abortion pills outside the Supreme Court. Justice Sotomayor felt it appropriate to compare an unborn baby to a braindead person, and an opinion piece in the New York Times bemoaned the evils of adoption, arguing in essence that it is better for a child to be murdered than to experience hardship. Truly, no one can expose how evil abortion is better than those who advocate for it.
As Americans returned from their Thanksgiving breaks this week, members of elite media returned to one of their most intolerable habits: stoking unsubstantiated fears about the coronavirus. This time it’s the ominous omicron variant that’s supposedly a massive public health threat. However, as Jim Geraghty points out in his “Morning Jolt” newsletter, there’s no concrete evidence indicating that the omicron variant is an especially dangerous strain of the coronavirus. Geraghty both criticizes the media’s alarmist approach, while thoroughly describing the scientific evidence as it stands now.
