The Lone Conservative Weekly: September 19, 2021

Dear reader,

We hope you are enjoying this last weekend before Fall.

AOC, a self-described working-class woman, went to the Met Gala this week to party with the rich while wearing a dress that said “tax the rich.” As if that wasn’t revealing enough, she also brought her dress designer with her, who currently owes thousands in taxes, and had a masked servant carry the back of her dress while she waved to the peasants maskless. Truly, not even those who fought at Lexington and Concord stood up to power in such a way, and those who stormed the beaches of Normandy could get a few tips from her on how to be both stunning and brave. But all jokes aside, we at Lone Conservative would like to thank AOC for vindicating everything we thought about socialists. No one can make the case against socialism better than the socialists who actually believe in that murderous and hateful ideology.

While AOC wants to tax the rich, Biden wants to raise everyone’s taxes. As we get closer to the start of the new fiscal year on October 1, Democrats are in crunch time to push their 3.5 trillion dollar spending bill through the final stages of the budget process. The next two weeks will be critical for them, and the ramifications of this package could be wide-reaching. Biden was always going to raise taxes, but as Veronique De Rugy highlights in her Thursday article for Reason Magazine, these tax increases will impact the middle class too, not just the wealthy.

“I’m not a doctor — but I’m pretty sure if you die, the cancer dies at the same time. That’s not a loss. That’s a draw.”

Norm Macdonald, the fearless comedian who is quoted above, came to a draw with cancer on Tuesday after a private, nine-year battle. Best known for his role on Saturday Night Live where he constantly derided OJ Simpson and the Clintons to the point of his release from the show, Norm’s joy for life was as contagious as anything. A tweet of his from 2018 resurfaced in the wake of the news that captured his essence. “At times, the joy that life attacks me with is unbearable and leads to gasping hysterical laughter. I find myself completely out of control and wonder how could life [sic] surprise me again and again and again, so completely. How could a man be a cynic? It is a sin.” Gone at 61. RIP.
