Three years ago, I was scrolling through Twitter and saw that Ben Shapiro retweeted a flyer for a panel hosted by three conservative women at UC Berkeley. An avid fan of intellectual discourse, I eagerly attended the livestream. It was there that I discovered Kassy Dillon.
I believed that Kassy was intelligent and charismatic, so I was determined to work with her in the future. It was through that panel that I discovered an organization that would change the trajectory of my career, develop my political philosophy, and blossom dozens of friendships.
I applied to Lone Conservative with zero political connections, no writing experience, and without a clue as to how I should begin my career. I’m doubtful that anyone else would’ve taken a chance on me, but Kassy’s organization did.
Not long after I began writing, I secured my first political internship. Soon after that, I found my way to Washington, D.C. for a summer internship. I slept on the floor of a tiny one-bedroom apartment with three roommates in order to afford it. It offered me a lot of perspective and an invaluable amount of experience. I have Lone Conservative to thank for building the foundation I needed to get my start.
My journey isn’t an exception, it’s the rule. Over 450 bright-eyed and ambitious young conservatives have taken it to mutual benefit. Our career prospects have improved, our talents have been developed, and we’ve made connections and friendships with countless individuals who stand with us in the fight against tyrannical leftism. Lone Conservative managed to establish a thriving community of young patriots ready to do more.
Today, I begin my tenure as the president of Lone Conservative. I have an ambitious, yet necessary vision for the future. We’re in a trying time for the direction of the country and in the battle against progressivism. It’s not a battle that I intend to lose. It doesn’t take much to realize that the left’s grip on the media is ever-tightening. Their monopoly on the narrative isn’t a threat to the conservative movement or its politicians, it’s a threat to the future of the country altogether.
For us to overcome this, we have to be willing to commit everything to develop institutions that can combat this daunting threat. I’m determined for Lone Conservative to be leading that charge. I can’t wait to announce all of the new and exciting programs and initiatives that we’ll be launching in the coming months to achieve that goal.
To be selected as the successor to Kassy is an honor that my words can’t do justice. She set out to combat the lack of intellectual diversity in academia but accomplished something even greater: building America’s largest conservative student commentary site. I’m grateful to be the one to shepherd this amazing group of young minds on the next step of our journey.
