Virginia and Their Gun Laws: Attempting to Fix a Problem that Isn’t There

The state of Virginia has been making headlines across the nation about the Second Amendment and the state’s proposed liberty-limiting legislation.

In fact, nearly the whole state has decided to rebel against the liberal elites in Richmond in their quest to disarm law-abiding citizens from across the state. The state government has proposed various laws, ranging from red-flag gun laws to confiscations.

According to the National Review, as a result of these tyrannical policies proposed by the state government, ninety-three jurisdictions and counting have decided to become Second Amendment sanctuaries. These jurisdictions are home to roughly 40% of the population of Virginia.

Governor Northam has threatened everything from sanctions on elected officials to deploying the national guard to take care of these rebels.

Most recently, Virginia’s governor has declared a state of emergency before the gun rights rally on January 20th in Richmond. By declaring a state of emergency, protesters are not allowed to have any firearms on the capitol grounds during the protest. Governor Northam cited credible threats from white supremacist groups and anti-government militias for the decision to increase security.

So what happened during the rally?

There was no looting. There were no shootings. There were no fights. Simply a group of people peacefully protesting for the civil rights of the many on the day celebrating one of the greatest champions of civil rights in the nation.

Interestingly enough, Virginia has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation. When looking at just the jurisdictions considered Second Amendment sanctuaries, the crime rate drops even further.

So what are they trying to fix?

Clearly, this isn’t about fixing an issue. Virginia’s state government is waging war with law-abiding gun owners across the state.

There’s a lesson to be learned by every state in the nation from the current situation in Virginia. The liberal elites that control the state government in Richmond are clearly out-of-touch with a large portion of the state. Virginia, statistically, is one of the safest states in the nation. So why try to confiscate firearms?

In response to Governor Northam’s threats, Tazewell County in Virginia has started the process of forming their own militia to fight against the national guard if it’s deployed. Not surprisingly, the resolution passed with near-unanimous support at the local County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The West Virginia Senate has also passed a resolution that would provide for Frederick County, VA to join the state of West Virginia.

Since the start of the push to protect the 2nd Amendment, the Attorney General of Virginia has also issued an opinion firing back, saying that the Second Amendment Sanctuaries carry no legal weight.

Virginia is setting the standard for radical anti-gun policies. They’re also setting the standard for fighting these tyrannical policies. While the United States needs less tyrannical leaders fighting to take away the rights of the many, it also needs more fighters for freedom.

These anti-gun, tyrannical policies are literally splitting the state of Virginia apart. Virginia, and many other examples across the nation, clearly show that Americans are unequivocally against gun control, regardless of how the policies are phrased.
