YG surprised the world by making two “diss” songs towards our President, instead of the typical songs that his fans are used to hearing. It’s been clear since the beginning that the Compton rapper was no fan of Trump. To make matters worse, this past week, at his concert, YG not only kicked a fan off stage for refusing to say “f*ck Donald Trump,” but he also kicked him out the venue. So much for being “tolerant.”
Now, it must be admitted that while the beat for these songs is pretty catchy, they could’ve used more time to get better opposition research for their songs.
Let’s dive into the infamous “FDT” parts 1 and 2 and debunk all of the ignorance and false facts in both songs!
“Party in the streets when Hillary wins” (Macklemore)
There’s not much to say about this, but I do feel like I speak for the majority of America when I say: YIKES.
“Surprised the Nation of Islam ain’t tried to find you” (YG)
The Nation of Islam is a Black Islamic religious movement that was founded in Detroit. The NOI’s leader, Louis Farrakhan, has been known to preach hatred toward white people, Jews, and the LGBT community. It makes sense why YG would say this about the NOI, and this verse would work in YG’s favor—had Farrakhan not gave Trump praises.
Nolan D. McCaskill of Politico quoted Farrakhan saying, “Trump is the only member who has stood in front of the Jewish community and said ‘I don’t want your money.’ Any time a man can say to those who control the politics of America, ‘I don’t want your money,’ that means you can’t control me.’” Farrakhan also stated, “I like what [Trump] I’m looking at.”
“Don’t let Donald Trump win, that n***a cancer/He can’t make decisions for this country, he gon’ crash us” (YG)
“We let this n***a win, we gon’ prolly feel broke” (Nipsey Hussle)
For starters, for folks who’ve lost a loved one to cancer, this is blatantly inconsiderate. Secondly, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Just look at the numbers: according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Black unemployment rate is at 5.5% (the lowest rate in this century so far). Also, 400,000 manufacturing jobs have been created since the 2016 election, and four million jobs have been created overall thanks to the Trump Administration. If I’m not mistaken, more jobs don’t equal a country crashing. I’d advise YG and Nipsey to do some research before rapping ignorance because the Black community is thriving during this presidency.
“This man hates Muslims, that’s a billion f***** people” (G-Eazy)
“Bannin’ all Muslims? Aiight, bool” (Macklemore)
Hey G-Eazy and Macklemore, long story short: Trump doesn’t hate Muslims, and he is not trying to ban people simply for being Muslim. What President Trump did was call for extreme vetting from the countries that former President Obama identified. Where was the outrage when Obama banned visas for refugees from Iraq in 2011? It seems to be some phony outrage going on here.
“What if we ban all the white dudes? / Because a couple have run up in trench coats and rifles/And killed in the name of Jesus Christ at the high school” (Macklemore)
Okay, 1. Here we can see that Macklemore isn’t aware of citizenship laws. A naturalized citizen cannot be banned or deported from this country, even if they committed a crime. 2. To my knowledge, there has never been a school shooting where the shooters praised God before they killed innocent students. 3. If the country were to magically ban white dudes, then Macklemore and G-Eazy should be worried.
“Since America is f***** up anyway/Give Obama a third term, that’s what plenty say” (YG)
Education is key folks because it is apparent that YG missed the government lesson at Paramount High School when the teacher talked about term limits.
