We recently celebrated National Podcast Day by sitting down and enjoying the usual podcasts that we listen to over and over again, but when was the last time you tried listening to something new? If it’s time for you to find a new favorite host or if you need to get some new content, here’s a list of some of the best-hidden gems in the podcast world:

Lifestyle

Podcasts focusing on lifestyle can be broad in topics ranging anywhere from finances to time management. Lifestyle changes can be hard, but if we’re all being honest, we can all improve. Here are some great lifestyle category choices to check out in your free time:

  1. The Lady Brains Podcast
  2. The Dave Ramsey Show
  3. Andy Stanley Leadership Podcast

True Crime

If you’re anything like me, nothing gets you more excited than an intense true-crime marathon. If you’re ready to procrastinate your homework until you figure out the culprit, room, and weapon then check out some of these!

  1. Misconduct
  2. 22 Hours: An American Nightmare
  3. Unsolved Murders: True Crime Stories
  4. Serial

History

George Santayana was believed to have said, “[T]hose who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Whether we see it, history can be not only something we learn in school but also lessons and warnings for modern life. If you need a fresh look at the past, go give these a listen:

  1. Tides of History
  2. American History Tellers
  3. The History Chicks
  4. This Day in History

Politics

I can’t say that I suggest constantly listening to someone talk about our current political climate on repeat, but listening to commentary or news while commuting, or when working, can be a great way to stay up to date  (even if you have a tight schedule). Here’s some of the top little known political podcasts that you have to check out:

  1. The Kassy Dillon Show
  2. The Elephant in the Room with Bradley Devlin
  3. Ordered Liberty

Random

There are some podcasts that don’t necessarily fall into a specific category, but are still definitely worth your time. If you’re not sure which category sounds good to you, jump into one of these that you’re sure to enjoy:

  1. Myths and Legends
  2. American Scandal
  3. Another Kingdom
