Abortion is one of the most hot-button issues in American politics, filled with opinions, encapsulated in detailed arguments and emotional jargon. With the left deeply entrenched in its support for “reproductive rights,” the debate is taking the center stage in 2020 election campaigning. However, while everyone has an opinion on abortion, few actually can describe what an abortion is or how its is done. So let’s go into it, so that everybody can see abortion for what it is: a violent, evil procedure that kills an innocent, unborn child.
According to Advice and Aid Pregnancy Centers, there are several types of abortions— all brutally violent. The only non-surgical type of abortion is chemically induced abortion using medication such as mifepristone or misoprostol. Mifepristone works by making the lining of the uterus thin, preventing the embryo from staying implanted. Misoprostol works by making the uterus contract and expel the embryo.
The other types of abortion, all surgical, are: vacuum aspiration, dilation and evacuation, labor induction, partial birth abortion, and hysterotomy.
Vacuum aspiration and D&E are similar. Both use a suction tube to kill the child and remove it from the womb. However, D&E, which is done later in the pregnancy, involves the use of forceps to rip the child from the womb, sometimes dismembering the child in the process. When ultrasound machines are used to guide this procedure, the children can often be seen squirming to avoid these deadly instruments.
Dilation and Extraction, more commonly known as partial-birth abortion, is so violent and barbaric that it is illegal in the US. It involves the induced labor and partial birth of the unborn child. The child’s skull is often collapsed during the process and it’s brain is then suctioned out. The hysterotomy, much like a c-section, involves cutting open the abdomen and uterus, followed by the killing of the child and its subsequent removal.
Even explaining or reading about these procedures takes an emotional toll on a person that provides a true sense of how horrific they truly are. Abortion is a violent, barbaric operation, but the truth about it has been largely held from public view, due to the powerful duo of lobbyists like Planned Parenthood and the mainstream media. We are continually told by the media that abortion is a safe, humane procedure, that they hope to keep as rare as possible. This may sound good to those who are ignorant of the facts, but the truth is that there are nearly a million abortions in the US every year, with Planned Parenthood contributing 300,000 abortions of them. By muddying the waters, the media successfully controls the narrative; its enormous influence causing large amounts of misinformation to freely become mainstream.
This misinformation comes in many forms, from false statistics to Machiavellian logic and moral arguments. One of the most commonly cited statistics is that 1 in 4 women will have an abortion, but while this information is currently accurate, the number continues to decline across the board, according to a recent Guttmacher Institute study. Another lie is the safety and humanity of the procedure, which is clearly debunked with the information above, which can be easily found through a simple Google search. Precarious moral arguments such as a women’s right to choose topple when countered with the humanity and inherent worth of the unborn child. No argument can naturally supersede the unborn child’s right to life, but these arguments are labeled sexist, racist, and misogynistic by those on the other side. By obscuring the facts and making unfair emotional appeals, the media is able to hide the barbaric nature of abortion and the humanity of the child.
Without knowledge of what abortion is, many seek to build their arguments on the basis of convenience, reducing crime and poverty, saving the world from unwanted children, or protecting women’s rights and their reproductive freedom. By understanding abortion for what it is, conservatives will be better equipped to steer the conversation back to the center of the argument, namely the human life of the child and its subsequent violation by abortion.
Conservatives must continue to stand for the unborn and expose abortion for its brutality and unrepentant evil, educating the public on the procedure and staring down the misinformation and political attacks that come with defending God’s most innocent creations.
