NEWS: Michael Knowles’ Assaulted During Disrupted College Speech

The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles was allegedly assaulted with a paint-like substance during his lecture at the University of Missouri-Kansas on Thursday, April 11th for expressing views that did not align with the leftist ideas of some audience members.

The incident occurred while Knowles, a conservative pundit and host of the Michael Knowles Show, was giving his speech titled, “Men are not Women.” Some claim the lecture was bigoted and “anti-transgender.” The speech was constantly interrupted by who Knowles called “screaming children,” with the protesters standing up to leave mid speech while yelling, flipping Knowles off, and ringing bells.

When the substance was thrown at Knowles, the protester was allegedly “tazed and detained” by law enforcement, according to The Daily Wire. This prompted other leftist students to chant “hands up, don’t shoot.” The Kansas City Star claimed that the substance was nothing more than lavender oil and other non-toxic substances.

According to the latest report by KSHB, a local news outlet, one of the protestors was arrested. The Washington Examiner has also reported that the assailant was a student at the university.

According to The Hill, “UMKC Chancellor C. Mauli Agrawal put out a statement Thursday saying that while he disagreed with Knowles’ message, Dabu’s actions ‘crossed a line.’” Chancellor Agrawal went on to say, “[Knowles] professed opinions do not align with our commitment to diversity and inclusion.” He also praised some from the university for organizing a counter-event to promote diversity and inclusion.

The Kansas City Star posted a tweet essentially victim-blaming Knowles for “hoping” for a disruption. Knowles responded by writing, “I mean, my dress was awful short. I guess I was asking for it, huh?”

Knowles did fight back rhetorically when heckled, but it was his platform that was being disrupted. However, rather than engaging in civil discourse in the scheduled Q&A segment, the students that interrupted the event chose to disrupt and silence the discussion all together.

The specific incident can be seen on camera and the entire event can be viewed here.
