Journalism after Donald Trump

After the botched report by Buzzfeed in January about President Donald Trump directing Michael Cohen and other witnesses to lie to Congress, we watched several networks run the unconfirmed story. Less than 24 hours after Buzzfeed reported the story, Special Counsel Robert Mueller said the report was inaccurate but networks like CNN and MSNBC ran with the story while Buzzfeed stood by their reporting. This event continues almost four years of negative press and false reporting by the media against President Trump.

Whether it happens on January 20, 2021 or January 20, 2025, Donald Trump will not be President of the United States anymore. The questions that should be on everyone’s mind are, “What journalism will look like? Will they continue their current rhetoric of praising their heroes on the far left and relentlessly attacking those on the right or will there finally be some objectivity?”

What Happens if Trump wins in 2020?

If Donald Trump is able to win re-election in 2020, we will see a media meltdown on election night that rivals or most likely surpasses the 2016 meltdown. If we think the way that outlets like Buzzfeed, CNN, and MSNBC are acting right now is bad, we better realize this is nothing. We have to be ready for an all out media war on the President, his administration, and his supporters for the next four years. The attacks and allegations against President Trump will be relentless and the excuses the left wing media comes up with will be even more ridiculous.

CNN and MSNBC mentioned impeaching President Trump 200+ times within the 24 hours before Robert Mueller’s statement about the Buzzfeed report. Expect that rhetoric, not necessarily at that pace, to continue.

What Happens if a Democrat wins in 2020 or 2024?

If a Democrat is able to win the Presidency, we might see the media adore whoever the winner is more than they adored President Obama. The media will push every left wing program (universal healthcare, free tuition, etc.) without limits. They will defend the person who wins and call critics racist, sexist, or both. This will also happen during the primary season, especially since we have four women (one of them an African American woman) and a Latin American man who have already announced their intentions to run for President. The Democratic Party and the mainstream media need to realize that pushing for a historic first is not good for the country and that the person most qualified for the job should be President.

If a Republican wins after Trump, the media will still be extremely critical of that person and the rhetoric would be similar to if Trump was re-elected. The only person the media might hate more than President Trump is Ted Cruz based on the fact that Cruz is a proven conservative taking office, something not many people said about Trump.

The accusation of racism and sexism will still be there, without proof. Republicans won’t get the pass that Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, a Democrat, got after his abortion comments and might face more backlash if a photo of them dressed in blackface or a KKK hood surfaced. Donald Trump has exposed most of the media as the hard line leftists that they are and has broken them as well.

We should not expect this problem to be fixed by the time he gets out of office and it will take decades for the media to regain the trust of the American people.
