A Facebook video posted today by the College Republican Federation of Puerto Rico (CRFPR) depicts a dark-skinned Hispanic gentleman wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat on the Rio Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico being harassed by the person taking the video.
In the video, the female behind the camera asks the gentleman, who is talking to another person, where he is from, and telling both gentlemen that they are not welcome, in addition to saying that, “Racism is not welcome here, you know that?” The Puerto Rican gentleman then laughingly points at his skin and says, “Really?” and wishes her well. He questions the irony of her statements, which she subsequently stands by. She then walks away, commenting to the viewer that she had been recently harassed by people allegedly defending racism, and expressing her disbelief at seeing the aforementioned man in the middle of campus.
According to CRFPR’s video caption, this isn’t the first time this man has been harassed:
“Yesterday afternoon, a student from the Rio Piedras Campus was harassed on multiple occasions throughout the day for wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat. This is one of the occasions in which he was harassed and labeled a racist for thinking differently than the progressive ideas that dominate the Rio Piedras Campus. In this video, hypocrisy is on full display from lefists who preach about ‘diversity’ but who aren’t themselves as accepting of diversity when they encounter someone who thinks differently than they. The university is the meeting point for many ideologies, not just one. In our organization, we encourage freedom of expression and we treasure the first amendment to the Constitution.”

Comments from Pedro Miguel, chair of the CRFPR about this incident:
“This is the first time this type of interaction towards a Republican student has been recorded on video, but interactions like these happen regularly. […] There has been previous hostility [towards those wearing MAGA hats] from leftists, while they themselves promote safe spaces for all. […] Because of this, Republican students on campus are afraid to show their political preference.”
