Kristan Hawkins, the President of Students for Life of America, is completing her fall campus tour entitled “Lies Pro-Choice Politicians Tell.” Hawkins is seeking to educate college students on the abortion industry and the dishonest rhetoric used by its political allies.
During her earlier tour in Spring 2018, Hawkins encountered some outrageous protestors. While speaking at California State University in Los Angeles, a group named “Refuse Fascism” organized a protest, saying that Hawkins was a “Christian-fascist” tool of the patriarchy, and that her pro-life message was “anti-woman poison.” Security was needed for the event.
While Hawkins’s fall tour hasn’t included anything like the madness in Los Angeles last semester, she has encountered some interesting challenges. Hawkins recently spoke at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, where many students tried to prevent her from coming to campus.
“The students … actually petitioned the administration to rescind the offer,” Hawkins said. “They said I wasn’t qualified to speak on the issue because I didn’t have an MD.” Many pro-choice activists packed the room for her speech at Colorado, which sparked a lot of dialogue during the Q & A.
“It was a pretty hostile audience,” Hawkins said. “But there haven’t been any bomb-sniffing dogs like there were in LA!”
One of the lies pro-choice politicians often tell is that if you don’t vote for pro-choice politicians, you are a sexist activist for the “War on Women.” Interestingly, almost all of the major pro-life activists in America, including Hawkins, are women, and they completely shatter this false narrative.
“There’s this idea…that if you don’t vote for the pro-choice [candidate] then you hate women, Hawkins said. “Obviously that’s blatantly false.”
When asked about “pro-life” people who try to justify voting for pro-choice politicians, Hawkins said their rationale is “wrong” and “really dangerous.”
“Obviously if you’re pro-life, you can’t vote for a pro-abortion candidate. That’s just not how this works,” Hawkins stated. “There are issues that as Americans we can disagree on … but with abortion, it’s very black and white…. [Y]ou can’t vote for candidates who you might agree with on one issue but say they agree with a women’s right to choose, because it’s a black and white issue.”
Hawkins believes many people have become desensitized to the violence of abortion because of how socially acceptable it has become.
“If you saw 2,500 people die every single day when you turned on the nightly news… if every American saw 2,500 bodies on the ground every day because of a mass murder… every single person would vote for the person who promised to end that atrocity. They would never ever think about voting for a candidate who gets money from those committing the atrocity,” Hawkins said. “But because we don’t recognize the human child in the womb as a child and we can’t see the abortion, then we can try to rationalize our votes in other ways.”
Hawkins plans to visit handful of schools for another tour next semester. Any organizations interested in bringing Hawkins to campus can do so by contacting email@example.com.
