The Media’s Gun Bias on Full Display

If you didn’t hear about the school shooting that occured on March 20th, you’re not alone– it appears as if most people haven’t. You may find this odd since the shooting that occured in Florida over a month ago still dominates the daily headlines. Shouldn’t the media give the same coverage to similar stories? One would think so, but the media has made it clear that they have an agenda to push, and that agenda is purely anti-gun.

A student named Austin Rollin opened fire at Great Mills High School in Maryland. A female student, Jaelynn Willey, was struck and unfortunately died as a result of her injuries. A second male student was struck and was last reported to be in a stable condition. The shooter was pronounced deceased shortly after the incident occured. There is yet to be a clear motive announced and the FBI and ATF are still working with local authorities.

So why wasn’t this a major story? One could argue that this wasn’t headline news for the same reason that we don’t report every time a plane lands safely.

This shooting wasn’t reported due to the lack of lives lost. But there is more to it than that, this wasn’t a story because the media didn’t want it to be a story.

How would news of a stopped shooter contradict the left’s agenda? Wouldn’t Piers Morgan jump on any story where he can use the victims to demagogue the evil firearms especially the “fully semi-automatic” AR-15? With this story this isn’t possible because there wasn’t an evil “assault rifles” used by the shooter.

“Assault rifles” have been banned from civilian use since 1934. As a matter of fact, the shooter, who is reported to be of high school age, used a handgun, which he is legally barred from owning. This destroys two narratives that the media has been pushing for a while. The narrative that modern sporting arms like the AR-15 are exclusively used by school shooters and that more restrictive gun control on law abiding citizens will work.

In the wake of the Parkland Florida shooting, there has been discussion about how to better secure our schools. One proposal that has been introduced would allow for training armed security and training for arming teachers. The media and the left have both come out in opposition to this proposal.

Some people could argue that this would militarize our schools thus making them less safe. Other assessments that have been made are that this would make our schools into prisons somehow. Even more striking some like Everytown have argued that his would put minority students in danger the most.

Rather than show the full situation of another school shooting, the mainstream media decided to ignore because they didn’t agree with it, and instead spent the day criticizing President Trump for congratulating President Putin on his victory. Even Twitter decided to cover up the story by deleting the ‘Moment’ and opting to spread a meme mocking Ivanka Trump for wearing a lab coat.

Regardless of this subterfuge, those who seek the truth will find it and conservatives will continue to criticize the media when they choose to hide it.
