Today at Amherst College, students entered Valentine Hall with a controversial poster hanging above the door. Outside the cafeteria hung a sign that read “THERE IS NO FLAG LARGE ENOUGH TO COVER THE SHAME OF KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE… In honor of those killed and displaced by America’s so called “war on terror.”
This 9/11-themed poster was erected by an anonymous group on campus. They have not come forward or been identified.
The poster has since been rolled up.
The Amherst College Republicans set up their own 9/11 memorial to remember those who passed away 16 years ago today. So far, there has been no attempted vandalism of their memorial.
The Amherst College Republicans have released the following statement in regards today’s display on campus:
The vile and despicable poster, hung by the radical left of Amherst on this most sacred day of remembrance, marks a new low for campus culture across the nation. There is clearly no depth of indecency, hate, and Anti-Americanism to which leftists–both within and without academe–will not sink. It is the responsibility of every honorable American both to expose and reject this scourge of intolerance and viciousness and to condemn institutions like Amherst that propagate it.
The Amherst College administration declined to comment on the matter.
This is not the first counter to the Amherst College Republicans actions on campus this year. Kassy Dillon writes at Campus Reform their first meeting was greeted with posters likening them to the KKK.
