On Friday, July 14, 2017 at 7:12 am, two Palestinian terrorists stormed out of the Temple Mount compound and shot and killed two Israeli Druze policemen. The terrorists were yielding guns that they had previously hidden inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the mosque within the compound.
In response to this unspeakable evil, Israel installed metal detectors and other security measures at all the entrances to the Temple Mount to ensure security for those coming to pray and worship. This makes sense. All other major sites of worship have security measures in place for this specific reason, including the Western Wall.
The Israeli government also intended to prevent the Temple Mount from becoming a terrorist weapons storage facility. We have already seen Hamas, and other terrorist groups, store weapons and shoot rockets from mosques in the Gaza Strip. The assumption that terrorists would respect their holy places of worship and not use them for violent militant purposes is, alas, incorrect.
The Palestinian response to these safety measures? “This is a direct threat to the holy site and we cannot and will not tolerate it.” Palestinians and Israeli Arabs alike took to the streets to protest this seemingly sane and moral action that the Israeli government undertook to protect the worshipers.
Led by the Waqf, a Jordanian body that controls and manages the current Islamic edifices on the Temple Mount (including the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock,) and spurned on by the Palestinian Authority, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad, Muslim worshipers refused to enter the Temple Mount until all security measures were removed.
They elected instead to pray outside in the streets, blocking major thoroughfares and starting clashes with Israeli security forces.
As the prayer protests continued, Imams and Palestinian leaders turned up the violent rhetoric. They called for a Jihad against all Jews in an effort to defend the Temple Mount from the Jews who “want to steal it from them.”
Arabs from all over Israel were being bussed into Jerusalem to protest. Israeli Arab MK Haneen Zoabi, who is known for her extremely controversial views about Israel despite being elected to the Knesset, showed up to the Temple Mount to protest. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas broke off all contact with the Israeli government over this issue.
This is not the first time that Muslims have used this excuse to riot over the supposed taking of Al-Aqsa.
In 1929, a group of Jewish residents of the old city of Jerusalem installed a bench by the Kotel (Western Wall) for those that wished to pray by it. The Mufti of Jerusalem riled up the Arab crowd by telling them that the Jews wanted to take away Al-Aqsa, and then led them on an attack of the Yeshiva of Hevron (Jewish school of advanced study) in which they slaughtered most of the students.
As recently as 2015, after Jewish visitors attempted to pray on the Temple Mount, the Palestinians launched the knife intifada as a response.
This is all paranoia. Israel has always been committed to Muslim prayer in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and in fact in 1967, after winning the Temple Mount from the hands of the Jordanians during the Six-Day War, returned the administration of the Temple Mount to the Wakf. This decision went contrary to the call from some in the Israeli Rabbinate and many other members of the Israeli government that pushed for the closure of the Temple Mount Compound to all. Jews, Christians and Muslims alike.
No, rather, their absurd theory is that the Jews want to remove all Muslim presence from the Temple Mount by installing metal detectors. Yes, you heard me right. Metal detectors and security cameras!
Then, after a week of rioting and protesting, Omar Al-Abed al-Jalil – a-nineteen-year-old Palestinian terrorist with ties to Hamas – broke into a Jewish house in Halamish on Friday night, July 21. He heinously murdered Yosef (70), Chaya (46), and Elad (36) Solomon during their Shabbat meal.
Prior to the attack, Omar would write on his Facebook page, “what is my life is when they [Israel] defile our Al-Aqsa?” He went on to perpetrate this horrible unspeakable act of evil.
How did the Palestinians as a group respond? In the most despicable way! They lauded the murderer, praising him as a hero. Hamas issued a statement calling the attack a “necessary reaction” to the new Israeli security measures at the Temple Mount. Additionally, in a tweet, they called it “heroic.” His mother publicly shared a video describing how proud she was of him. She would then proceed to hand out candy to neighbors in celebration. His family will be receiving a large monthly stipend to the tune of $3000 a month from the Palestinian Authority as a reward for his “noble” deed.
On Monday, July 24, a Palestinian terrorist stabbed another Arab in a pizza store in Petach Tikva, mistaking him for a Jew. The terrorist openly told police that he carried out the stabbing as revenge for the Jews taking away Al-Aqsa. Additionally, an Israeli embassy security guard in Jordan fell victim to terrorism.
So the question must be asked: Why are the Palestinians rioting when the Israeli government is giving them security at their own mosques? When all the Israeli government is “guilty” of is protecting their right to pray as opposed to taking it away?
The answer, unfortunately, is the Palestinians currently do not want peace and security. The metal detectors are not the problem, they are just the latest excuse for them to fight the so-called “Israeli aggression.”
So the Palestinians pretend, yet again, that Israel is the aggressor. They protest and riot, call for and carry out violence, all in the name of Jihad. This is a holy war for them.
Of course, one would assume that Israel won’t remove the metal detectors, they are vital to the safety of Israel’s security forces!
On Wednesday evening, July 26, bowing to International pressure, Israel removed all security features from the Temple Mount. What was the Palestinian response? Believe it or not, it wasn’t a kind “thank you” for giving in to their requests.
Claiming victory, the Palestinians rioted all Thursday, throwing stones at police officers, and onto the Kotel Plaza. Israeli security forces arrested more than 20 Palestinians in the Al-Aqsa Mosque following the riots.
We see yet again, by giving in to one’s enemies, one only emboldens them. Will Israel have the strength to stand strong in the war against terror? Time will tell.
But one thing is for certain, the Palestinians are not committed to peace, not now or ever. By rioting against metal detectors, they have shown their true colors. They will stop at nothing less than the complete destruction of Israel. No discussion is allowed, no debate may be had. As long as Israel exists, any measure of violence is necessary. The end justifies the means.
My message to those on campus that openly call for Israel’s destruction and support movements such as BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions), an anti-Israel group. Remember this: you are standing with evil instead of standing up for peace and freedom. By aligning yourself with supposed Palestinian “victims” that are willing to attack and murder, just because the country that they live in, which gives them equal rights and opportunities, installs metal detectors at a place of worship, makes you a partner in that evil.
If the universal goal is to have freedom for all, take a look at Israel and at what she goes through in order to preserve this freedom for Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. Israel does not discriminate. Israel guarantees freedom of prayer for all religions and is a country that wants to protect all her citizens, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or race.
Appeasing the left won’t help, just as appeasing the Palestinians won’t stop the violence. Conservative values like free speech, and the right to bear arms, among others, are not the actual issue for the left.
Unfortunately the left has embraced those who stand against everything they supposedly stand for. The left aligns themselves with the worst people, including terrorists and murderers in order to pretend that they are for the downtrodden and oppressed. The left praises other countries in the region, like Saudi Arabia, Iran and others, who kill gays, flog women, and deny citizens that are not Muslim basic rights.
You are who you associate with.
