The House Freedom Caucus: President Trump’s Ally, Not His Enemy

Monday, April 17, 2017

After the collapse of the GOP health care bill, Trump came out firing on Twitter taking aim at The House Freedom Caucus. It seemed as if civil war had broken out within the Republican Party sparked by Trump’s tweet, “The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!”  However, the assault on the most conservative group in the house didn’t go without some push back. Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) tweeted back at the president “It didn’t take long for the swamp to drain @realDonaldTrump”.

As a principled conservative, I have a simple but meaningful message for President Trump: Be careful when attacking the group that’s shown you nothing but loyalty.

Let me remind you Mr. President: It was the House Freedom Caucus that stood by you when near but everybody had given up. It was the House Freedom Caucus who viewed your candidacy as the only legitimate way to bring about change for our country. It was the House Freedom Caucus who campaigned vigorously to get you elected. Yet, In light of all this caucus has done, you take to Twitter to call for their defeat in 2018.

The American people elected you because you promised results. To truly Make America Great Again, let’s face it, we need a united Republican party.

The House Freedom Caucus, wanted more ObamaCare provisions scrapped, including a handful of “Title 1” insurance mandates that conservatives blame for driving up premiums. The House Freedom Caucus couldn’t get behind a bill that appeared to make only minor changes without making any real strides in bringing down premiums. The president should be thankful for the failure of the GOP health care bill, thus exempting him from any fallout this bill would’ve prompted.

As conservatives, we should be thankful for the strong leadership shown by The House Freedom Caucus in holding Trump to his promise of a full repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

It’s absolutely vital to keep in my mind, The House Freedom Caucus is Trump’s ally. By simply keeping Trump to his campaign promises, the Caucus is standing up for Americans all across this great nation who voted for him and want a government that can be held accountable.

For conservatives everywhere questioning the motives of the House freedom caucus, be aware they’re simply holding Trump to the conservative agenda he campaigned and was elected on.
