Why Conservatives Suck

Our liberal counterparts have many misconceptions about what conservatives believe. I have been referred to as racist, a supremacist, and violent, simply for identifying with the right wing. However, conservative values are often times more complex and substantial than most liberals are willing to accept. Liberals oftentimes use these oversimplified versions of conservative beliefs in order to straw-man their way through arguments, and I’d like to set these assumptions straight.

Conservatives are racist.

Conservatives believe that every person should be tried by the merit of one’s actions and not by the color of one’s skin. Liberals believe in discrimination so long as the decisions are made in favor of the minority, in fear of offending the outnumbered, regardless of what their actions were.

Conservatives are stealing from you.

Conservatives believe that the wealthy should not be forced to pay a higher percentage of taxes on their hard-earned money over anyone else. They believe successful entrepreneurs are a good thing for America, along with its economy. Meanwhile, liberals believe in punishing the wealthy in order to support others who may or may not be contributing to society in any way.

Conservatives are violent.

Conservatives believe that citizens have a right to bear arms and maintain personal protection. Because conservatives support the Constitution and the Second Amendment, apparently it automatically means they are trigger-happy executionists. Liberals would prefer society let criminals run unhampered through cities.

Conservatives hate women.

Conservatives believe in the right to life, that all life is precious and valuable. Thus, they do not endorse the concept of abortion. This concept does limit a woman’s freedom as to choices she can make about her body. However, the alternative gives women freedom to literally take life from a child.

Conservatives are white supremacists.

Conservatives believe that enemies should be identified and destroyed instead of giving terrorists freedom to enter into the United States. Allowing terrorists to enter will more than likely harm citizens, regardless of what their beliefs or skin tones may be. Meanwhile, liberals prefer to take a passive approach on terrorism, trusting that police officers or other law enforcement will be able to handle attacks on American soil.

Conservatives are homophobic.

Most conservatives do not appreciate the idea of gender-neutral bathrooms or otherwise intimate areas. Conservatives believe situations like this offer too much freedom for predators, male or female, to take advantage of such a system by claiming that they are in a gender-transitioning process. The intended use for gender-neutral restrooms is not what has conservatives concerned. It’s the lack of distinction in such policies. Many conservatives even believe there could be a point at which a transitioning individual should be considered the opposite sex. The solution would be to separate those who may use these policies for their intended purpose and those who may lie about their sexual identity in order to sneak a peek.

Conservatives are uneducated.

Many conservative voters are middle class, working Americans who do not agree with most liberal policies. These are people who may or may not have college degrees but make too much money to receive government assistance and benefits and too little to not feel the effects of liberal desires on their wallets. Middle-class workers have researched propositions and residual effects and have made educated decisions on which policies would be most beneficial for their needs and the needs of others. However, many liberal voters are minimum wage workers with little to no professional skills or degrees looking to reap benefits from an overly forgiving system that liberals would like to enact, degrading the value of any kind of education in the first place.

Conservatives hate immigrants.

Conservatives are patriotic. Conservatives love the USA and believe it is a privilege to be considered a U.S. citizen. Conservatives believe that any person coming into this country should have the same love and appreciation for it that a natural-born citizen would. What conservatives do not appreciate is when an immigrant comes into this country and takes advantage of systems in place for citizens. These people are not just immigrants. They are illegal immigrants who are not only breaking laws but are diminishing what it means to be a U.S. citizen.

Conservatives are outdated.

Conservatives believe in more traditional approaches to many social and economic issues than their liberal counterparts. They believe in a limited government and that American citizens should be first priority to that government. Conservatives believe in the values of the Declaration of the Independence and the United States Constitution, documents our founding fathers intended as the backbone of this country for over 200 years. Conservatives believe that any other enacted set of beliefs would not constitute the same country, and they are willing to fight to the bone in order to preserve the country so many before us have sacrificed their lives to protect.

I was born in upstate New York, where I lived until I was 15, when my mother and I relocated to Alabama. The best thing my mother ever did for me was move me to a red state where I felt we were not alone in our political views — a comfort that was short lived as I began college. So here I stand, raising awareness for the fingertip rule, bras, valuing my education, and the Bill of Rights. Not sorry if that offends you.
